Cryptovirus!
There is a new virus out there called Crypto Locker (ransomware virus) and it is particularly nasty. It will exploit vulnerabilities in Windows and encrypt all documents on PCs and Servers.The Cryptovirus is distributed through several means. Malicious websites, or legitimate websites that have been hacked, can infect your machine through exploit kits that use vulnerabilities on your computer to install this Trojan without your permission of knowledge.
Since January 2015, we have deal with several infections of this virus including two servers. As there is no data cure, data restore is the only solution. ACS had installed online backup systems on the sites. This enabled full recovery of data.
The cost of a ransomware attack can be quite high not just the cost of the ransom itself, but also the loss of business during the time that files and documents are unavailable!!!
